Day after Easter…He is STILL alive…

5 04 2010

Clayton King posted this today….

Clayton King Do NOT STOP celebrating Christ’s resurrection today. He is just as ALIVE today as He was yesterday…and will continue to be!

I guess what caught my attention most was the beginning of the statement, “DO NOT STOP celebrating Christ’s resurrection today!  I thought as I began my day today as I jumped back into the fray with the busy schedule – what makes today different than yesterday?  Why is JUST that ONE day special?  Here is the reality.

After Jesus was resurrected, He walked this earth for forty(40), catch that, forty(40) days.  Over those forty(40) days over 500 people were eyewitnesses to His resurrection and then…He ascended to be with the Father – FOR A PURPOSE! And that purpose was to prepare a place for those of us who LIVE everyday in a relationship with Him.  And He didn’t leave us alone.  He gave us His Spirit to guide us and encourage us and strengthen us.  That is the reality!

That makes today special.  Can you see this baby duck in the water in this picture?

A lost baby duck at River Falls Park, Downtown Greenville.

He chirped for hours looking for his (or her) mother.  He was lost and in desperate need of someone to save him from the rapids that were just upstream.  That’s ALL of us – until we’re found by our Savior.  Look – those of you who know me know that I just like being real.  I don’t like to force anything on anybody.  But the reality is just that – TRUTH! I hope that if this Easter experience doesn’t do anything for us, at least it reminds us of the reality of what we really need in this life.

You can have all the money in the world.  All the land and possessions you could ever want.  All the expensive toys you want.  But if you haven’t taken time to consider the TRUTH of Jesus, you’re missing out on the most important thing.  When you discover that reality, here is what happens…

1) You’re outlook on life (all of life) changes

2) You change

3) Your passions change

4) You learn what real love is like

5) You discover new relationships with ALL people

6) You find peace and joy like you’ve never ever had before

7) You’re definition (and experience) of success changes

I could go on but the bottom line is – HE IS WHO HE SAYS HE IS and that will NEVER change.  Forget about your denominational affiliations for a second and just consider Jesus.  You won’t regret the pursuit I promise!  Here is just part of that blessing for me…

My daughter (Kara) and wife (Karen) - WHAT A BLESSING!

Want Relief? Joy? Peace? Stand in line!

4 04 2010

My accountant sent this to me and it just made me do some thinking.  These dogs need relief but they need a tree to relieve themselves. (or a fire hydrant. Eh!)  We all want relief (a different kind of course) and it seems that we are having to wait and wait and wait with no relief in site!  We’ve cut down trees and we’ve gone about the business of living our lives our way!  We’re tired, exhausted and worn down.

I’ve got good news for you.  The best way to get relief from the pressures of this world is to RUN, GO FAST and know that the VICTORY has already been won.

But be prepared to put the brakes on!

And this is where I think we are.  We’ve put the brakes on in our lives and we feel like the dog in the above picture.  I stay busy and go from one thing to the other knowing that the VICTORY is won and Jesus wants me to stay busy for his sake!  You see I do alot of things and have my hands in a lot of things but occasionally I have to put the brakes on, but the things I do are all intended to…

1) Point people to Jesus!

2) Bring Jesus glory and honor!

3) Make a difference in someones life!

This Easter, read John 3:16 and Matthew 5:16 and live your life with PURPOSE!!

1) For God…everything begins with Him.  He is the giver of life.  He has a plan and purpose for each of us.  He knows our hearts, our intentions, our motivations.

2) So Loved the world…you think you know what love is?  Not unless you know Jesus.  Love is in Him and he is the greatest example of love as he served and ultimately sacrificed His life in order that we might live.

3) That He gave His only begotten Son…GAVE HIS SON!  Having 2 sons of my own, not sure I would/could give either of them up to death so that someone else might live.  This is huge!

4) That Whosoever…that’s anybody regardless of race, language or whatever.    Jesus died for everyone to have the opportunity to live eternally.

5) Believes in Him…Belief, faith, trust.  John 14:6 says that Jesus is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE.  Belief in anything else is misled religion.  Ready John’s gospel, read Romans and discover Jesus.

6) Will NOT perish…this physical life we live is simply temporal.  It will end and we just don’t know when.  We will all perish but the beauty of Easter and Jesus’ resurrection is that followers of Jesus, when they die a physical death go INSTANTLY into the presence of their Redeemer!  I like that!

7) But have everlasting life…and this is what it is all about.  No more relief needed.  No more standing in line.  No more getting squashed in the seat when the brakes go on.  No more pain, tears, sorrow or death.  LIFE!  EVERLASTING LIFE with the Creator and Redeemer!  I frankly can’t wait!

That was John 3:16.  Matthew 5:16 says “let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”  Find life then make it count! Yep, can’t wait!

Handicapped? Easter! (I think a must read this Easter)

2 04 2010

We live in a society that is severely handicapped.  Recently the issue of being handicapped has really been made vividly more clear to me.  There is the severely physically and mentally handicapped which most of us are accutely aware of and we have compassion on those in that situation.   Karen and I have reconnected with an old high school friend of mine, Mike Ciochetti.  He is engaged and getting married on October 10, 2010 (10/10/10).  His fiance’ is a precious lady named Holly Macaulay.  Holly has a 7 year old son named Shawn that due to childhood vaccinations that went horribly wrong, left him severely handicapped.  They visited with us this Wednesday evening.  Here is a picture of Karen and Shawn.

Karen and Shawn in Downtown Greenville, SC

Now Shawn has no brain activity that is normal.  He is essentially a young child (7 years old) that is totally dependent on his mom, Holly and now Mike (what a blessing) to care for him.  Several observations here…

1) Mike and Holly treat Shawn like any mom or dad would treat their child – NO DIFFERENCE!

2) His disability is a blessing to Holly and Mike in many ways

3) Shawn laughs – I don’t always know at what but I think he laughs because he knows that he is LOVED very much and that one day he’ll be healed for ALL eternity

3) Holly went through many terrible days early on building her courage, strength, stamina and LOVE for Shawn

4) Shawn has a life!!!

5) The day will come when Shawn will see Jesus and Shawn will have a completely healed body and mind!!

6) Shawn is loved by His maker and by his earthly parents

7) We ought to be AS (if not more) dependent on Jesus as Shawn is to Mike and Holly – SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is my point as we approach Easter…

1) Many folks with NO physical, mental or emotional handicap are more severely handicapped than Shawn because they don’t have a relationship with Jesus!

2) People need to realize and respond to their desperate need for Jesus or they will face an eternity that is a whole lot worse than Shawn’s TEMPORARY handicap here in this life!

3) In a court of law, nothing could be done to fix Shawn after the vaccinations went bad.  In a court of law it only takes 2 witnesses to agree for a verdict to be rendered.  There were over 500 eyewitnesses that historically and factually witnessed Jesus after His resurrection.  That fires me up!!!

4) We need to NOT be ashamed of Jesus (Romans 1:16).  I love watching Holly and Mike with Shawn.  Yea, people stare but Mike and Holly stand UNASHAMED of Shawn!  Why?  Because they love him!!!!!

5) Read about the resurrection of Jesus this weekend (Matthew 28 and Mark 16)

6) 1 Corinthians 15:2-10 says,

  • “By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.  For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.  After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.  Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.  For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.  But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.”

7) And here is a powerful verse to claim this Easter,  Philippians 3:10…

  • “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,”

Let me close with John 11:25,

  • “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;”
